United wonderkid overlooked unjustly by Ten Hag handed perfect birthday present by Amorim

Manchester United enjoyed a near-perfect evening at the King Power Stadium on Sunday as the Red Devils ran out comfortable 3-0 victors against Leicester City.

This was Ruben Amorim’s biggest away win in the Premier League while the match also saw both Rasmus Hojlund and Alejandro Garnacho end their barren streak in front of goal.

Given Bruno Fernandes’ imperious form, it looks like things are finally starting to click into gear ahead of an all-important April month which will see the 20-time English league champions take on Olympique Lyon in the Europa League quarter-finals.

The only negative on the night was Ayden Heaven’s injury but the young defender put in a Rolls Royce performance against the home side during the 51 minutes he was on the pitch.

Amass debut

He was not the only 18-year-old to enjoy a fine evening with Harry Amass coming on for his much-awaited first team debut in the 69th minute.

It was his birthday as well with the left-back becoming the 253rd graduate from our Academy to play for the first team, emulating the likes of Garnacho, Toby Collyer and Chido Obi in the process.

“Harry Amass and all these young kids have to understand that they’re so lucky to be playing for Manchester United and that is so important for him, so it’s the best [birthday] gift that he can expect,” the coach said after the game.

The England U18 international looked comfortable playing as the left wingback, winning two tackles while misplassing a solitary pass while also winning a 100% of his aerial duels.

The former Watford product has had to bide his time for the debut when many had anticipated he would make the breakthrough much earlier given his impressive showings in pre-season.

Delayed debut but worth it

But former boss Erik ten Hag opted against throwing him into the deep end, and the London-born star has kept at it, impressing for the academy teams which finally prompted Amorim to hand him his deserved debut.

Amass has 21 appearances for the U18s and U21s combined this term, registering four assists while impressing in the titanic FA Youth Cup win against Arsenal in February.

Should Heaven not recover in time and with Leny Yoro, Luke Shaw and Lisandro Martinez out injured, the wonderkid could be in for even more opportunities in the weeks to come.

This is just the start and the young ace should work even harder and be ready to step up and prove himself when called upon again.
