Tactical analysis: United will demolish Leicester City tonight so long as they remember to do one thing

Manchester United will be looking to come away with three points when they take on strugglers Leicester City at the King Power Stadium tonight.

While it’s been a tough season so far for Man United Manager Ruben Amorim, his team has significantly improved their form in recent times, coming off of a dominant 4-1 victory over Real Sociedad to book their place in the UEFA Europa League quarterfinals.

United’s defence held steady, with Sociedad only finding the back of the net thanks to a penalty.

Although Amorim’s attacking lineup has struggled in recent times, United looked deadly up top, unleashing 25 shots and creating six big chances, resulting in four goals. (Stats via Sofascore)

Ultimately, should United repeat their midweek performance, a win over Leicester would be an easily achievable task.

After all, there is one weakness that Leicester have exhibited that could give United a massive victory.

In the past five Premier League matches, Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side have conceded a jaw-dropping 13 goals. In that same timeframe, they have been unable to score a single goal of their own. (Transfermarkt)

Intriguingly, six of the 13 goals Leicester conceded came after just 30 minutes of play, while four came in the final 10 minutes of the game as well as stoppage time.

This shows that Van Nistelrooy’s players not only struggle to find their momentum during the match, but also lose their focus in the final minutes as players suffer fatigue.

In the Real Sociedad match, one Bruno Fernandes penalty was scored within 16 minutes while his hat-trick goal as well as Diogo Dalot’s goal came after the 87th minute – exactly during the moments of play that Leicester appear most vulnerable.

Still, it wasn’t just against Sociedad that United were lethal on the attack.

In the 1-1 draw with Arsenal, United took 10 shots, with six being on target and two being blocked. This means that just two attempts missed the mark.

Amorim’s men were also threatening in the game before that – the first leg clash with Sociedad. In that 1-1 draw, United took 13 shots, with five hitting the target and two being blocked, meaning that six were inaccurate. While a slightly lower level of accuracy in that game, United were constantly bombarding the Sociedad goalmouth throughout the first 70 minutes of play, before the equaliser affected the balance of play.

Should United maintain their focus and continue their fine form this evening, they will be perfectly poised to dismantle Leicester and grab a valuable three points away from home as they look to improve their league position. Amorim’s side must bring the aggression and creativity they have shown up top in recent times as they look to win big at the King Power Stadium.
