Video: United maestro wins both Player of the Month and Goal of the Month for February

Ruben Amorim suffered another turbulent month as Manchester United’s head coach with February providing a real mixed bag of results for his side who still sit firmly in the bottom half of the Premier League.

However, it was a productive month for club captain Bruno Fernandes who once again proved his worth with some all-action displays that played a huge role in United managing the positive results they did.

As reported by club media, the skipper’s efforts were recognised by the fans as he picked up United’s Player of the Month and Goal of the Month awards for February.

Fernandes was undoubtedly United’s stand out player over the five games which saw a few tireless display that included multiple goals and assists.

Harry Maguire and Joshua Zirkzee were also in the running for the crown but Fernandes won by a landslide with an impressive 69% of the overall votes.

It was his excellent driven cross that allowed Maguire to head United into Round Five of the FA Cup and his set-piece skills also helped to his team overcome Ipswich Town at Old Trafford in the last game of February despite being a man down.

Additionally, his outstanding free kick lit the spark for an unlikely comeback against Everton that meant United left Goodison Park with a point in what was their last-ever visit to the ground.

That was the strike that secured the Goal of the Month crown out of the seven efforts United managed in February.

United were in desperate need of inspiration after a woeful first hour on Merseyside with Fernandes stood over a dead ball, 25 yards out from Jordan Pickford’s goal.

With the England keeper expecting the ball to go over his wall, a fatal step to his right resulted in the Portuguese slamming the ball into the unguarded side of the net, halving the deficit which Manuel Ugarte ultimately wiped out to help secure a point.

Despite his good spell of form, Amorim has found himself defending his captain from some unwarranted criticism from former United captain Roy Keane over the last few days.

United’s head coach is under no illusions of the importance of his captain and will be desperate for him to continue his good form until the end of the season.

United face hugely important fixtures in March, and have the chance to progress in both cup competitions they are still alive in while also attempting to find some consistency in the league

The Portuguese Magnifico will no doubt play a huge role in any success United are to enjoy between now and the end of the campaign, starting with today’s visit of Fulham in the FA Cup.
