“That’s why we get the result”: Bruno Fernandes reveals secret behind United’s fightback in draw vs. Everton

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has admitted that he and his teammates threw caution to the wind and ultimately, this is why they managed to snatch a valuable point against Everton on Sunday afternoon.

United fell two goals down in the opening 45 minutes at Goodison Park, with Beto and Abdoulaye Doucoure finding the back of the net.

The Red Devils struggled to match Everton’s physicality and intensity and did not even have a shot on target before the break.

It seemed like the visitors were set for another disappointing result but Fernandes’ sublime free-kick breathed some life into them.

Manuel Ugarte’s strike from the edge of the box restored parity and ensured the spoils were shared between the two sides. The goal was the Uruguayan’s first for the club since his summer move from Paris Saint-Germain.

In his post-match presser, Ruben Amorim acknowledged that United were non-existent in the first half. The 40-year-old revealed that he told his players to stick to the plan no matter what.

Fernandes spoke to MUTV and explained, “When you are in the dressing room at half-time after a game like this, you just have to focus on yourself and try to lift your standard and your game to try to get something from the game.”

“Obviously, it was very tough for us in the first half because we were trying to do the things but it wasn’t working out in the way that we wanted.”

He added, “I think in the second half, obviously you’re 2-0 down, you have more freedom because you are already losing, so you have nothing to lose more.”

“I think you get more of a try to do something else, and that’s why we get the result.”

Fernandes insisted that he is not getting carried away with the result.

“Every point now is massive for us because we are in a position that is very tough for us. Every point counts for us at the moment.”

“We need to be aware that the position we’re in is not the best, it’s not where the club needs to be. We need to demand more from ourselves.”

United are back in action on Wednesday when they host Ipswich Town at Old Trafford. Amorim and the fans will certainly be hoping for a more complete performance from the players.
