INEOS to “drive harder bargains” in the summer, they have some top figures in mind – report

After a quiet January transfer window, Manchester United fans must have been expecting INEOS to go out all guns blazing in the summer window to try and give Ruben Amorim the best chance at taking the club back to the top.

The club is currently languishing in 15th position in the Premier League and the Portuguese tactician needs to revamp the entire squad given the lack of quality throughout.

United need a striker desperately as well as a couple of midfielders, a new right wingback and possibly even a centre-back and a backup goalkeeper.

After all, INEOS failed to bring in a goalscorer in winter and the head coach is paying the price with Rasmus Hojlund’s poor form showing no signs of abating.

Low transfer budget

But as per i News, the co-owners are struggling big time due to rising PSR concerns and while there is no chance that they might be in violation of any rules, the transfer budget is expected to be abysmally low unless supplemented by major player sales.

“The i Paper understands that with minimal outlay in January and guaranteed income from outgoing transfers due, there is no risk of a PSR breach this year and that they will not be forced into sales before the 30 June “soft” transfer deadline.

“But their headroom for potential purchases could be as low as £20m to £30m, a figure that is unlikely to fund the sort of major surgery on the squad that Amorim envisages.”

Which is why, as seen during United’s negotiations with Lecce for Patrick Dorgu and during Tyrell Malacia’s loan talks, the Red Devils are expected to drive a hard bargain for every deal.

During the Glazers regime, rival clubs regularly fleeced United during transfer negotiations with the Old Trafford side always forced to pay extra but “United tax” might just become a thing of the past.

No more United tax

“Manchester United are in the process of a wholesale repositioning of themselves in the transfer market, utilising their legitimate concerns over Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) to drive harder bargains with European clubs.”

And while that is a good aspect, INEOS are unlikely to target readymade stars like the club did in the past with moves for Casemiro and Antony. Instead, they hope to recruit young players with potential to grow like Dorgu.

Which is why Liam Delap of Ipswich Town is seen as a perfect signing even though the coach would want a reunion with Sporting CP hitman Viktor Gyokeres.

And as expected, homegrown stars like Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho will once again be put up on the market while Marcus Rashford’s sale should also help as it will constitute pure profit.
