Furious Amorim reveals who is to blame for United’s poor performance despite comeback win vs. Leicester City

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has admitted he was not happy with his side’s performance in their 2-1 comeback win over Leicester City.

Bobby De Cordova-Reid put Leicester ahead in the 42nd minute of proceedings against a lifeless United, who were booed off at the break.

Eager to change the trajectory of the game, Amorim brought on Alejandro Garnacho for the second half. The Argentine was a bright spark and almost got on the score sheet but his effort was cleared off the line by Caleb Okoli.

The Argentine then sent in a cross inside the box that ended with fellow substitute Joshua Zirkzee tapping into the back of an empty net. It looked like the match was heading towards extra time but Harry Maguire had other ideas.

The England international produced a thumping header at the death, nodding in an excellent ball from Bruno Fernandes.

Maguire may have been offside for his goal but luckily for United, there was no VAR to check it.

After the final whistle, Amorim spoke to ITV and gave his verdict on the match. He remarked, “We had to believe until the end but this game has nothing to do with the time of Fergie.”

“I think the performance, we have to do so much better with the ball, without the ball.

“We didn’t have any energy in the beginning, especially in the first half. Then in the second half we played a little bit better, with a little more speed, winning second balls.”

“Then we managed to turn things around so it was a good result not a good performance.”

“The coach is the first responsible, when one team doesn’t perform, doesn’t improve, it is the coach but we are here to do things and to see the game, to study the game and try to improve for the next game.”

“I think it’s the small things, if you see the games sometimes it’s to control the ball, to have the ball, don’t give the ball away in the first pressure. It’s the small things, it’s the big things, it’s everything.”

He added, “It’s this moment, it’s hard away but especially at home but we have to cope with that and we will try to do it next game.”

United are back in action on Sunday, February 16 when they travel to the capital to face Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur.
