Final hours: United’s star’s impossible demands stun Euro giants ahead of blockbuster €55m switch – report

Napoli have 24 hours to make a decisive move for Alejandro Garnacho as they consider a transfer for the Manchester United winger.

While the Red Devils are open to negotiation on the transfer fee, the Argentine’s salary expectations pose a major obstacle.

The 20-year old has attracted interest from Chelsea in recent weeks, but Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness) reports that Napoli have now re-entered the race. The Serie A side must act quickly before shifting focus to alternative targets.

United have lowered their asking price to €55 million (£47 million), giving Napoli some hope of completing the deal.

However, the bigger issue lies in Garnacho’s wage demands, which exceed €4.5 million (£3.8 million) per season after tax.

Currently earning €1.8 million (£1.5 million) per year at Old Trafford, the winger is seeking a significant pay rise to make the move to Italy.

Napoli have been in talks with his representatives but remain unconvinced they can meet his demands.

The Serie A giants are now running out of time, with the transfer deadline fast approaching.

While United have shown flexibility on the fee, Garnacho’s contract terms appear to be the real stumbling block.

If a deal does not materialise, Napoli are prepared to shift their focus elsewhere.

Ahead of United’s final Europa League group stage match against Romanian side FCSB, manager Ruben Amorim spoke highly of Garnacho’s development. “I’m happy to have Garnacho here,” he told TNT Sports.

“He’s improving a lot. He’s a young, talented guy. You want to work with these guys with talent. That’s what drives the coaches to improve the team; to have these kinds of players that you know are going to improve a lot. In football, especially when we are in these situations, sometimes it’s hard, but I don’t want to focus on that.”

“I’m really happy to have Garnacho playing tomorrow.”

The Argentine’s future remains uncertain, but if Napoli fail to meet his demands, he could remain at Old Trafford—or attract fresh interest from elsewhere before the window closes.
