“devastated”:-united-star’s-anguish-is-laid-bare-in-heart-breaking-post-over-latest-setback

Mason Mount has revealed he is “devastated” by his latest injury setback with the Manchester United midfielder set to be side lined for at least “several weeks” with a muscular issue.

The 25-year-old midfielder’s career is yet to take off with United since his £55 million move from Premier League rivals Chelsea in 2023, with a series of recurrent injury problems blighting his time at Old Trafford.

There had been growing optimism Mount would excel under new head coach Ruben Amorim, who revealed his “love” for the Cobham graduate after just two weeks of training with the versatile midfielder.

“Mason Mount… I have to tell you I love that kid. You can look in his eyes that he wants this so bad. And this is the most important thing for me,” the Portuguese coach effused.

“I know he was suffering from injuries, he was not on the pitch, but now he’s trying to stay fit and we hope he can continue to be fit, to show all the talent that he’s shown, for example, in Chelsea.”

Mount’s best form in a Chelsea shirt came under Thomas Tuchel with the German manager employing a similar 3-4-3 system to Amorim. In this set up, the 25-year-old was most often deployed as the RAM in the front three, returning an impressive 13 goals and 16 assists in the 2021/22 season.

However, Amorim believes the Englishman is capable of playing in “two positions” in his system, suggesting central midfield is another area Mount can excel in.

And it’s this positional versatility, combined with a potent pairing of pressing and technical ability, which gave hope Mount was building towards a new lease of life at Old Trafford under the 39-year-old head coach.

But, as is becoming worryingly consistent, injury has again impeded the midfielder’s progress, being forced off the pitch after just 13 minutes in the Manchester Derby last weekend.

It was a testament to Amorim’s faith in Mount that he selected the 25-year-old to start, and the anguish on the former Chelsea man’s face as he left the pitch told the story of a thousand words with one image.

In Amorim’s pre-match press conference before Sunday’s match against Bournemouth, he confirmed Mount would be ruled out for “several weeks”.

“I don’t know the exact date, but it’s going to be for long. And that’s it, it’s part of football and you continue.”

Mount revealed his despair at the latest setback in a post on his Instagram page, stating “word’s can’t portray how devastated I am” as the midfielder returns to the injury table yet again.

“Words can’t portray how devastated I’m feeling right now, you could probably see the look on my face when it happened. I knew what it meant. United fans, you may not know me too well yet, but one thing I can guarantee, I will never give up or lose faith.

“I’ve said this before, but I will continue to give everything, get through this tough period and won’t stop until that’s achieved.”
