Mauricio Pochettino would be keen on taking the Man United job, if the club decide to part ways with Erik ten Hag.

Manchester United Football Club have a genuine dilemma on their hands. Erik ten Hag enjoyed an excellent debut season in the dugout, though his second campaign at the helm was nothing short of disaster.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS are now in charge of footballing operations. There’s every chance they want to bring in their own man. Perhaps they may never get a better chance to do that than this coming summer.

The indications suggest that Ten Hag may well get the boot regardless of the FA Cup final result, with the club no doubt scouring the market for potential replacements.

According to The Times (subscription required), 52-year-old boss, Mauricio Pochettino, is ‘interested’ in talking to United about the manager’s job, should Ten Hag be given the boot.

Pochettino is said to be ‘keen’ on the Red Devils role following his Chelsea sacking earlier this week.

The Argentine enjoyed success at Tottenham Hotspur, though his time at Stamford Bridge was hit and miss – though it did improve towards the end of the campaign.

What makes Pochettino an attractive option is his willingness to work on a tight budget. He worked wonders at Spurs with limited funds, while always giving youth a chance. I still firmly believe there’s no better academy in the country than the one at United. Perhaps this could be an astute move?

It’s a difficult situation as outsiders may well view this as a sideways step. With money set to be tight, there’s a case to be made it’s better to stick with Ten Hag for another year, then re-assess the situation next summer.

So far, though, Pochettino’s name is the most encouraging managerial link we’ve seen…
