Manchester United are in action against Newcastle as the Premier League returns this weekend. Our predicted line-up is below.

Manchester United kick-off in the Sunday late game at St James’ Park at 4.30pm. After an international break, this is the first game in a fortnight.

It is a pivotal one in the Premier League table, with Manchester United in third against fifth place Newcastle, separated by only three points.

Tottenham are in fourth place but have played two games more than Manchester United.

Manchester United will be looking to put out the strongest possible line-up to face Newcastle. It is the first league away game since the loss at Liverpool.

David de Gea will line-up in goal. Jack Butland will be on the bench after Tom Heaton’s recent injury.

At right-back we should expect Aaron Wan-Bissaka to get the nod. He was the better of the two options in the Carabao Cup final, and appeared to win the spot from Diogo Dalot before the break. Luke Shaw is also likely to feature at left-back ahead of Tyrell Malacia.

At centre-back, we anticipate Lisandro Martinez and a fit again Raphael Varane as the pairing. Harry Maguire would have to fill in if neither are fit.

The big dilemma is in midfield, with Casemiro suspended. Fred will either partner Scott McTominay or Marcel Sabitzer.

It is a tricky choice between the two, however, Scott McTominay‘s added confidence from his midfield brace combined with Sabitzer’s knock for Austria should give the former academy star the edge.

Player of the month Bruno Fernandes will complete the three man midfield.

Erik ten Hag was optimistic about Marcus Rashford‘s fitness and he will likely start in Manchester United’s attack.

There could be a choice up top, with Anthony Martial set to be part of the match squad. Wout Weghorst will still probably start, having caused Newcastle problems at Wembley, with Martial eased back in.

On the right we could see Jadon Sancho, who has had a rest, with Antony linking up with the Brazil squad over the break.
