4-2-3-1: Manchester United predicted XI vs Liverpool, 31-year-old returns and Hojlund starts

Manchester United have a huge game this weekend in the FA Cup against Liverpool, here’s our predicted line-up.

Erik ten Hag is heavily reliant on the FA Cup now this season after early eliminations in both the Carabao Cup and Champions League left him with one hope of silverware.

Manchester United therefore must win this game otherwise the season could effectively end on Sunday.

Top five and qualification for the Champions League for the 2024/25 season is still possible. Still, we wouldn’t count on United making up the pretty wide gap between themselves, Spurs and Aston Villa.

So that’s why the FA Cup is absolutely key for United and Ten Hag if he is to convince Sir Jim Ratcliffe he’s the right man, so here’s how we see him lining up his side against Liverpool.

Given the importance of this game, Ten Hag will be delighted to see several key players returning here to face Liverpool.

But in goal, there isn’t going to be any change, with Andre Onana hoping to repeat his incredible performance last time he faced Liverpool as he remains the only goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet against Jurgen Klopp’s Reds this season – as per ESPN.

In the full-back positions the return of Aaron Wan-Bissaka should see him start at right-back with Diogo Dalot being shifted simply because the left-back spot is absent of any natural option. The Portuguese defender has been a standout this season and should continue here against Mohammed Salah.

Central defence has also been bolstered by the return of Harry Maguire who should make his comeback appearance here alongside Raphael Varane which is as strong a combination we can have without Lisandro Martinez.

Midfield remains unchanged but Ten Hag did hint that Mason Mount could feature in the match-day squad after training all week. But the starters will be Casemiro and Kobbie Mainoo, with Bruno Fernandes ahead of them.

The attacking trio will also – we expect – be back to its full strength with Marcus Rashford on the left and Alejandro Garnacho on the right. Leading the line, finally, Rasmus Hojlund is back and hopes will be high that he continues where he left off with his fine goal-scoring form.
