37 G/A forward issues social media “come and get me” plea, INEOS will be tempted

Manchester United are looking to revamp their attack, and could LOSC Lille’s Jonathan David’s latest move be a direct signal to them?

With United strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee managing only four and three league goals respectively, many feel that if the club is to regain its clinical edge, it must explore options in the transfer market.

Head coach Ruben Amorim needs a reliable goalscorer to restore United’s competitive edge, and several names have been linked.

Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyökeres, Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap, Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, and Lille’s Jonathan David have all been mentioned as potential striking reinforcements at Old Trafford.

Of the many targets highlighted, David certainly stands out.

The Canadian striker’s contract at Stade Pierre-Mauroy was set to expire this summer, and while Lille may have hoped to keep him longer, the 25-year-old has now confirmed his departure.

In an emotional Instagram post, David announced that he will seek a new challenge after five years at Lille.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Napoli have made an offer for him, but nothing has been agreed yet.

The Italian club may be trying to enter a transfer battle dominated by Premier League sides.

In March, Le 10 Sport reported that Arsenal, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur were negotiating for his free transfer.

Jonathan David to United makes perfect sense

Looking at United’s goal-scoring struggles and considering that David has scored 25 goals and provided 12 assists in 48 games, he might be the upgrade United desperately need.

With the Red Devils restricted by the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Regulations, they may need to sell before making significant signings.

A free transfer swoop for David would certainly be appealing to INEOS.

However, with several clubs keen on securing the Canadian international, United face a tough challenge convincing him that they are his best next step.

They could strengthen their case by winning the UEFA Europa League next week and promising him a central role in Amorim’s attack.

That said, if David does agree to an Old Trafford switch, does it mean United will end their pursuit of other striking targets?

Given United’s ongoing struggles in front of goal, a double swoop for strikers would not be surprising. However, that decision may depend on the club’s plans with Hojlund.

If Hojlund departs, and with Zirkzee more of a playmaker than an out-and-out striker, United may still splash the cash on someone like Delap, even if David arrives on a free transfer.
