3-4-3: Rashford dropped, Mainoo and Hojlund start as Amorim fields physical XI vs City – prediction

It seem pretty unlikely that Marcus Rashford will be in the Manchester United starting XI against Manchester City tomorrow.

Rashford put in a poor display against Viktoria Plzen on Thursday and was substituted after 55 minutes.

Alejandro Garnacho will almost certainly take his place at left inside forward.

The man who replaced Rashford in Pilsen, Rasmus Hojlund, will surely start in the centre forward position tomorrow after his goal poacher’s brace against the Czechs.

We expect Bruno Fernandes to move further forward to make up the front three, with head coach Ruben Amorim concentrating on physicality in central midfield.

This could come in the form of Manuel Ugarte and Kobbie Mainoo.

Casemiro is likely to drop back to the bench despite a decent performance on Thursday.

Christian Eriksen is not getting much game time under Amorim and is unlikely to start.

Toby Collyer could make the squad. Other options for the midfield and forward positions include Mason Mount, Antony and Josh Zirkzee.

Amad has been one of United’s stand out performers this season but he could be sacrificed for a more defensive option at right wing back.

This could be Noussair Mazraoui, with Leny Yoro coming in to replace the Moroccan at centre back.

Diogo Dalot will probably pip Tyrell Malacia for the left wing back role.

The other two centre backs will be Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez.

Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans are other options. Luke Shaw is the only member of the squad who is out injured.

Andre Onana will continue in goal despite a bad couple of outings in the last two games.

With all that in mind, here is our predicted XI for tomorrow’s 4.30pm GMT kick off:
