Phil Jones (remember him?), may still seal an exit away from Man United this summer.
Manchester United Football Club thought they’d uncovered a gem when they signed Phil Jones as a young man ten years ago.
Sadly, the Englishman’s time at Old Trafford has mostly involved Jones sitting on the treatment table. He’s not played a competitive game for the Reds in almost two years, while it definitely looks like he’s no longer in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans.
Understandably, the offers haven’t been plentiful for Jones. After all, he’s on a huge wedge of money, while not many clubs would even consider taking that risk.
Well, the 29-year-old United star could still leave the club this summer, according to 90min.com. Apparently, the player is attracting interest from Championship side, Fulham.
It’s expected that this deal would be an initial loan, during which United will still be stumping up most of Jones’ wages, though it would give the centre-back a chance to play regularly – something which he hasn’t done for over a half-decade.
The sooner United can find someone to take Jones permanently, the better. I’ll never understand why the club thought it was a good idea to hand him a new contract when he wasn’t anywhere close to the first-team fold.
As of right now, he’s the fifth-choice centre-back at United, though that’s unlikely to turn into much playing time for the ex-Blackburn Rovers man.
I just think United should come to some sort of agreement with Jones which allows them to release him, while working out some financial package for the centre-back. Then, he’d be allowed to sign for a club on a free transfer, probably a lower-league side, as he looks to get his career back on track.
