Lisandro Martinez is hoping to be fully fit for the FA Cup final against Manchester City.

Manchester United haven’t had any consistency at the heart of defence this season. The Red Devils have fielded 30 different back four combinations throughout the course of the campaign, which pretty much tells you everything you need to know.

Without question, the biggest loss has been coping without Lisandro Martinez. The Argentine has had a few pretty serious injury issues over the last twelve months. Without his leadership and skill, the defence hasn’t looked anywhere near as solid.

After his latest problem, I just assumed the ex-Ajax man wouldn’t play again this season, allowing a full recovery without risking any further setbacks.

However, Martinez has other ideas. According to the Daily Mail, the 26-year-old has ‘set his sights’ on being fit the FA Cup final against Manchester City in a few weeks’ time.

On top of that, Licha hopes to get some minutes in the three remaining Premier League games before hand, while he could ‘possibly’ play some minutes vs Arsenal on Sunday.

While I highly doubt we’ll see Martinez in the squad against Arsenal, it’s good news to hear that he is on the mend. Right now, the back line is absolutely decimated. There’s no fully fit centre-halves on the books, leading to Casemiro and an injured Jonny Evans playing back there against Crystal Palace. It did not end well. Imagine that duo against City?

If United can somehow get Martinez and Harry Maguire back and as close to 100% as possible, it would offer us that little glimmer of hope.
