Manchester United have been drawn against Sevilla in the Europa League quarter-finals.

United are the only English team remaining in the competition and have qualified for their third quarter-final of the season.

Here is our instant reaction to the draw, looking at two positives and one negative…

Positive: Manchester United have beaten higher ranked La Liga teams

The draw means United will face La Liga opposition for the fourth time this season and Sevilla are the ones currently ranked lowest in the division.

Barcelona sit top, Real Sociedad are fourth, with Real Betis fifth, but Sevilla sit 13th, just two points clear of the final relegation place.

This will not be an easy game but United go into it knowing they have beaten sides who are performing better domestically than Sevilla this term.

Positive: Sevilla suffered heavy defeats on the road this season

The first leg will be played at Old Trafford, handing United a chance to kill the tie at that stage, just like we did against Betis.

This season, Sevilla have lost 6-1 at Atletico Madrid, 3-0 at Barcelona, 3-1 at Real Madrid and Manchester City, and also lost without scoring in both away legs in the Europa League so far.

United have the chance to continue that misery on the road, and it will be important to do that, because Sevilla’s home form is stronger and has been the bedrock of their Europa League progress so far.

Negative: Europa League pedigree

Sevilla hold the record for the most Europa League victories, having won the competition six times in its history.

It feels like they have something of a grip on the competition, and beat United in the 2021 semi-finals, under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

United will go into the tie as favourites but Sevilla have relished being underestimated in this competition in the past.

Manchester United v Sevilla: Europa League quarter-final dates

The first leg of the tie will be played on Thursday 13 April with the return leg a week later on Thursday 20 April.

United will play the winners of the tie between Juventus and Sporting in the semi-finals, if we progress here.
