Alvaro Fernandez has major first-team plans at Man United.
Manchester United’s squad is jam-packed with talent. Unfortunately, that means limited chances for some first-teamers at Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag has to decide which players to send out on loan. Amad, Ethan Laird and Alvaro Fernandez are the trio who can count themselves unlucky to miss out on a first-team place. All three have since gone on to impress during short-term deals.
Fernandez is the topic of discussion here, with the left-back looking sharp while playing for Preston North End. The signing of Tyrell Malacia sadly halted any chances the Spaniard may have had this year.
However, he’ll come back to the Theatre of Dreams this summer in a much better position to challenge. The regular first-team minutes at Preston have guaranteed that fact.
Now, in a recent interview, the 19-year-old starlet has set his sights on a first-team breakthrough, making it his ‘goal’ while admitting to regular talks with Technical Director, Darren Fletcher.
“My goal is to return to Manchester United and earn a place in the first team. I talk a lot with Darren Fletcher, who is involved in the leadership of the first team.” Fernandez told Relevo.
I genuinely believe this boy has all the goods. Not only is Fernandez a superb defender, he’s also technically-gifted. It’s actually a super interview from the teenager, who touches upon a variety of important topics.
What comes across most is his willingness to succeed at the highest level. You cannot teach that drive and determination – which he obviously has in abundance.
What’s a little concerning is Fernandez also hints at a move back to his homeland of Spain in the future, but right now, he admits he’s feeling super happy with life in Manchester.
Hopefully, Fernandez keeps impressing this year, comes back to United with a point to prove over the summer and forces his way into Ten Hag’s plans.
