18-goal lethal finisher almost certain to miss United match on Tuesday – report

Manchester United have received some good news as in-form Nottingham Forest forward Chris Wood is unlikely to play against them in the next round of Premier League fixtures.

The Red Devils will next be in action when they travel to the City Ground on Tuesday 1st April.

United have struggled this season and are in 13th position in the table in spite of winning 3-0 against Leicester City just before the international break.

Contrastingly, Forest are flying high in the league in third position and have been one of the stories of the season.

Nuno Espírito Santo’s side are dreaming of Champions League qualification and have been inspired by their New Zealand international forward Chris Wood.

The 33 year old has bagged 18 Premier League goals this season with only Alexander Isak, Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah scoring more.

According to the Manchester Evening News, United may face a significant boost with the forward picking up an injury on international duty.

“Although Chris Wood didn’t get on the scoresheet despite being in fine form this campaign, he will not be able to add to his tally to when United visit the City Ground.”

“The striker was taken off injured during New Zealand’s 3-0 win over New Caledonia in the early hours of Monday.”

The forward was dealing with a hip injury and was subbed off while the game was still 0-0.

“Wood signalled that he needed to be substituted after suffering with some discomfort. He tried to continue after taking a knock but quickly realised he would need to be withdrawn.”

The big man will have a scan on the injured hip today to ascertain the severity of the injury, according to AP News.

“That’s where the pain is at the moment,” he said. “I felt it on that side so I’ll get it checked over and hopefully it is nothing too major and hopefully it’s just impact.”

United have already suffered at the hands of Forest and Wood this season when he scored a header in the 54th minute in Ruben Amorim’s side’s 2-3 defeat at Old Trafford in early December.

The Red Devils are currently unbeaten in four matches in the league since losing to Tottenham Hotspur in the middle of February and will hope to continue this streak against the high flying Tricky Trees.
