£129m star and 19-year-old Argentine among five free transfers Man Utd could target in 2024 – Opinion

Manchester United will already be discussing options for signings in 2024. Here are five free transfers the club could target.

Manchester United will hope to have new owners in before the next summer transfer window. But in order to take advantage of the free agent market, they must act now.

In June 2024 several top quality players will see their contracts expire and be available for free. From January, United chiefs can begin making moves to sign them after their expiry, with pre-contracts all the range.

So here are five players we see as possible additions to United next summer, with some more likely than others.

Nico Williams

Nico Williams is a player who has been touted as a potential world-beater in the future.

At just 21-years-old, Williams is already capped 10 times by Spain and has been linked with several La Liga teams along with Premier League sides.

This season has seen Williams on fire already after just six appearances he has four assists from the right wing as per TransferMarkt.

MORE UNITED STORIES

This a far cry from the poor assist figures we are used to from the right, and a possible dream come true for Rasmus Hojlund.

Valentin Barco

Valentin Barco is a player who has been linked with the likes of Brighton in recent months.

But with Manchester United’s left-back concerns recently, they could be looking at alternatives and who better than an Argentine wonderkid.

Luke Shaw isn’t getting any younger, while Sergio Reguilon and Tyrell Malacia don’t look like having a future here.

Barco is enjoying his best season to date at Boca Juniors and his value has skyrocketed over the past few months.

Lucas Assadi

19-year-old Chilean Lucas Assadi is a player who would be signed with a real eye on the future.

Tipped as Chile’s next big thing, he is crying out for some world class coaching.

A probable addition to Manchester United’s fabled Carrington academy set-up, we don’t see any downside to this. Low risk, high reward.

Guido Rodriguez

Everyone has seen the concern over Casemiro’s potential decline which leaves the defensive midfield open to be claimed.

Should a younger alternative not make apparent, the perfect stop-gap player could be available for free in Guido Rodriguez.

Rodriguez is a seasoned professional and has 29-caps for Argentina along with being a regular for La Liga side Real Betis.

A player under the radar who could come in and do a solid job if required.

Kylian Mbappe

Okay, so this won’t happen. But what if it did. Imagine Erik ten Hag gets United firing and a huge Champions League push is made.

Now also imagine Real Madrid don’t come calling for Kylian Mbappe and prospective new owners at Old Trafford want a statement signing, then look no further.

We don’t need to preach about his qualities but he is one of the world’s best and a real game-changer if he joined.

With a value of £129 million according to CIES, whoever signs him stands to make a healthy project as renewing at PSG looks really unlikely.
