11 times possession lost… Mason Greenwood shines, but another Man Utd loanee did his manager no favours in La Liga

Manchester United have a lot of players on loan – including Mason Greenwood and Hannibal Mejbri, who have both sought out game time in La Liga.

Greenwood has been fantastic for Getafe. The young forward has established himself as a key member of their first-team squad since his summer arrival in 2023.

Hannibal on the other hand, has struggled. He chose Sevilla as his destination in January – but, aside from numerous disciplinary issues, has failed to make any sort of impact on the pitch, playing little to no minutes.

This, again, was the same old story for both in Spain’s top flight over the weekend.

Mason Greenwood shines away from Old Trafford

Greenwood scored Getafe’s second goal in their home game against Las Palmas on Saturday evening. He rounded their keeper and fired home into an empty net.

He found himself in absolute acres of space as he latched onto Diego Rico’s long pass after just 14 minutes. All that was left to do was bare down on goal and expertly skip past Las Palmas goalkeeper Alvaro Valles.

While Getafe were 2-0 up, and then 3-1 up at the break, two second-half goals from the visitors ensured the game finished all square – but Greenwood was one of the top performers on the day. The same can’t be said for Hannibal.

Hannibal Mejbri fails to grab chance

Despite things looking up for the Tunisian, with Sevilla boss Sanchez Flores stating that Hannibal should be getting more game time in the coming weeks – his latest performance will have done him no favours.

Hannibal was granted his first start for Sevilla in their 3-2 win against Real Sociedad on Saturday – but was one of the worst performers despite the victory.

He was hoisted off after 53 minutes for the La Liga side, with some poor stats to represent his bad day at the office:

  • 53 minutes played
  • 0 goals
  • 0 assists
  • 30 touches
  • 14/18 accurate passes (78%)
  • 1/6 ground duels won
  • 11 times possession lost
  • 0 tackles

At least he wasn’t booked this time! But, again, not the response his manager would have wanted given recent comments.

Sevilla next face Almeria on Monday the 11th of March – will Hannibal be starting in that one?
