100% tackle rate… Man Utd man can hold his head high despite derby loss, he was class once again

Manchester United were 3-1 losers in the Manchester derby, but one player can definitely hold his head high despite the loss.

An early Marcus Rashford corker was not enough for Manchester United to get any sort of result against their noisy neighbours.

A Phil Foden masterclass inspired a City fight-back, which was rounded off by a late Erling Haaland goal.

It wasn’t necessarily a bad Manchester United performance. City were just far superior. Saying this, United did have some standout performers on the day.

Diogo Dalot excellent again for Manchester United

Diogo Dalot can be happy with his performance against the Premier League champions. He was once again excellent for United.

Dalot made sure that Jeremy Doku was one of Manchester City’s worst players on the day. He didn’t have a sniff in the first half.

But it wasn’t just his defensive duties. He was also one of the Red Devils’ best players going forward. A lot of United’s scarce attacking phases started through him bombing forward.

His fine performance at The Etihad is reflected in his stats below:

  • 100% tackle win rate
  • 100% dribbles completed
  • 100% aerial duels won
  • 80% duels win rate
  • 8/10 duels won
  • 3/3 tackles won

Alongside Andre Onana, Raphael Varane and Casemiro – he was one of United’s best players no doubt. But this is nothing new.

Diogo Dalot is Manchester United’s player of the season

Dalot has a case for being Manchester United’s play of the season come the end of the 23/24 campaign.

The Portuguese full-back has become one of the first names on the team sheet for Erik ten Hag and is, at the moment, our most consistent performer.

In the past, Dalot’s capabilities were definitely questioned for United – but he’s proven all the doubters wrong this season, and then some.

Chin up Diogo, United go again as they take on Everton in the early Saturday kick-off. Let’s hope for a better result than in the derby.
