1 shot, 1 goal: clinical United loanee extends fine run of form with decisive strike in his side’s comeback win

Manchester United loanee Rasmus Hojlund scored the winning goal for Napoli to help them to a 2-1 victory over Genoa.

Napoli beat Genoa

Genoa took the lead in the 33rd minute through Jeff Ekhator, who got on the end of a delivery from Mathias Olivery to fire home from close range.

Despite dominating possession, Napoli struggled to create clear chances and had to wait nearly an hour for their first shot on target, but like Genoa, they made it count.

Kevin De Bruyne failed to control Leonardo Spinazzola’s cross, but fortunately for Napoli, André-Frank Zambo Anguissa was perfectly positioned to head the ball into the back of the net and restore parity.

Napoli sealed their comeback in the 75th minute as Hojlund pounced on a rebound to score his third goal in two matches for the Partenopei.

The result has seen Napoli go back to the top of the Serie A table, level on points with AS Roma.

Hojlund’s performance vs. Genoa

Hojlund scored with his only shot at goal during the 82 minutes he was on the pitch.

The Dane touched the ball 26 times and found his teammates with 11 of the 13 passes he attempted (85% individual pass accuracy). One of his passes was a key pass.

He engaged in six ground duels, winning half of them. Hojlund was required to vie for four challenges in the air but he came out on top just once.

Hojlund also made one clearance.

The 22-year-old has looked like a player reborn since joining Napoli from United during the closing stages of the summer transfer window.

Hojlund is believed to have been hesitant to return to Italy, preferring instead to fight for his place at Old Trafford. However, judging by his current form, he’s unlikely to have any regrets about that choice.
